We usually all end up gaining a few extra pounds after the holidays. Eating a few too many treats and staying inside where it is warm instead of exercising outdoors can be the culprits. It is not surprising that our dogs can suffer from winter weight gain too. To help all our pets live long healthy, happy lives, we are relaunching our See Spot Slim Program.
How do you know if your dog is a good candidate? For starters, ALL dogs of ALL breeds should have a visible waistline when standing and viewed from above. Take a look and see if you can see a defined hourglass figure. Now see if you can palpate the ribs. You should be able to easily feel the ribs but not necessarily see them. If you can’t really feel the ribs or if you cannot clearly see a narrowed waistline, your dog could probably benefit from some weight loss. Dr. Mary at Pine Village Vet will conduct a free consult to select the most appropriate exercise plan and target weight. The food experts at Healthy Pet Products will help analyze your food journal to see where there may be room for improvement.
This program is perfect for any and every dog, whether you’re looking for serious weight loss, just trimming off a little off the edges. It’s also great for the dog that has energy to burn and just needs an outlet for cabin fever. The program is totally customized for your dog’s needs. The program includes :
- Veterinary Health Assessment and Weigh Ins – Start out with a plan and a goal
- Treadmill Sessions during daycare – 3 times weekly for weight loss or as an outlet for that dog who needs to burn off excess energy.
- Nutritional Consultation – Selecting the right food and fine-tuning quantity
- Daily Journal – Track your dog’s intake and exercise progress in our easy to use journal
One flat fee of $200 covers the vet visit, the nutritional consultation, the journal and 3 treadmill sessions per week. You would simply schedule the sessions in advance along with the daycare visits* for the week.
Call K9 Kingdom today for more information or to save your “Spot” a spot in the program! All dogs are asked to enroll by February 15th if possible. 724-935-3647.
* Attendance in daycare is not mandatory for participation in the program. Dogs can participate in See Spot Slim without daycare for $240.

We brush our own teeth regularly, but often forget that good dental hygiene is important for our K9 friends, too.
Just like us, food, plaque and bacteria can build up on your dog’s teeth and gums over time. If left uncleaned, the daily build-up can harden into tartar, cause gingivitis or receding gums and even lead to tooth loss. Brushing your dog’s teeth regularly can help prevent tooth and gum diseases.
In honor of good dental health month, K9 Kingdom is offering $2 off any teeth brushing service during the month of February.
Keep your dog healthy as can be by booking a doggie teeth brushing with one of our groomers today. Call 724-935-3647 to schedule an appointment.

It’s that time of year…
It is cold and snow is falling. Winter means flakey, shedding fur, irritated paws and lack of exercise due to harsh, outside conditions.
K9 Kingdom has a solution to all of these issues.
Our professional grooming staff has special shampoos to relieve that dry itchy coat. They offer treatments that help with excessive winter shedding, leaving your dog’s coat less bulky and shed free. For irritated paw pads, ask about a Mushers Secret application to soothe and protect paws from the outdoor elements like salt, snow and ice.
If the weather is keeping your dog from getting the usual exercise he needs, consider using our always supervised indoor dog park or daycare option. Your dog will be romp with other dog friendly dogs while staying warm and clean!

Although we must apologize for the temporary inconvenience, we are admittedly thrilled to announce that we are going to be resurfacing our Indoor Dog Park.
For those of you loyal folks who have been with us since the beginning, you already know this isn’t our first dog park remodeling project. This time, we’ve found a great concrete stain and seal solution from folks who actually know dogs, and this is a tried and true product that will last for quite some time! It will allow us to continue providing a clean, safe, reliable surface that can stand up to the signficant wear and tear of puppies just having a good time.
The Indoor Dog Park play area will be out of commission from Saturday, January 21st through Tuesday, January 24th. We will absolutely be providing care for boarding dogs throughout this time, and daycare dogs are welcome to spend time with us as well! We’ll be offering alternative services to make sure everyone is just as happy and well cared for as always (see details below). Grooming will operate as normal. The Puppy Kindergarten class on Tuesday, January 24th will be rescheduled. If you haven’t already, you’ll hear from your instructor soon.
For our boarding guests, all dogs will receive the Very Important Puppy Package for the adjusted rate of $48 per night. We’ll be including (2) 15 minute walks for each dog, a frozen peanut butter Kong, plus your choice of two more activities each day. Whether it’s a snuggle, treadmill session, or an extra walk, we’re sure there’s something fun for everyone! This is also a great time to take advantage of our teaching skills during Play ‘n Train sessions (just $12 ea).
For daycare dogs, all dogs will receive a 15 minute walk ‘n snuggle session every 3 hours.
As always, reservations MUST be made in advance for these special services. We will accommodate as many requests as we can, but please understand that our space is limited during this brief time frame and we are committed to providing top notch services regardless!
